I think it means that you must be curious to find out about something and to gain knowledge in something. Being excited about learning is the best way you can lean.

This quote for me indicates that the only pathway to knowledge is curiosity. Plato suggests that wonder is an essential aspect of seeing, searching and learning. Without the feeling of wonder and curiosity human beings would lack purpose and be left in the shadow of ignorance. Therefore we must seek our true potential by being inquirers and continue to question the world we live in.

Philosophy is in the essence “love of knowledge”. The first step one has to make in order to love knowledge is to get surprised by something. This makes person inspired and gives motivation to investigate the reasons behind things that brought wonder. It is now important to distinguish between “getting knowledge” and “loving knowledge”. I think that wonder is not the only door through which we can get to the knowledge, but it is the only one that leads us to the love of it. According to Plato, therefore, the abilities of being surprised, questioning everything and seeing the world as a wonder-ful place, are crucial for getting the joy of knowing.

The first step of getting or absorbing knowledge is wondering. More simply, this wodering is equal to the curiosity. If you want to get knowledge successful, curiosity is the key point. Try to think about that if you already feel boring before you start to do something, the outcome here is very clear, you will finally lost interest in that and throw it away. However, if you feel that you can not wait anymore and you have to find answer immediately, this strong feeling will motivate you to explore and analyze the answer. Finally, curiosity will lead you to get the knowledge. No matter who you are, when you have a strong feeling that you wnat to know something, you just start a journey of being a successful philosopher.

To discover a new side of a subject or even a completely different subject itself means to expand the horizons of perception and to understand the world in a different way. However, before one recognizes the discovery he made, he goes through such steps as noticing, keeping the eye on the subject, examining it and making conclusions. The hardest part is to notice. To notice the potential new subject requires attentiveness and a wish to recognize potential concepts. Many people are not ready for this and never go in for looking for the discoveries. At the contrary, those who do posses such qualities are the ones to become philosophers. Their sensitivity is the initial point to wonder the world around them. Without wonder no one would have understood the world, because no one would have cared. The wonder inspires people with interest. It is the catalyst for thinking, and the core of philosophy. Since a person wonders, he cares and keeps on thinking, which gives its outcomes. Since the world is immense and unpredictable, wonder is the reason the philosophy appeared and exists.

This statement makes me think that, since wonder is the beginning of the philosophy, almost everyone could be a philosopher because everyone has sometime had a feeling of wonder. As a reason of my understanding of this quote, I agree and disagree at the same time. It depends on the way of thinking of each person and the things that makes them feel wonder. For instance, all children feel wonder during their childhood but, to be honest, I don’t think that they can be philosophers at that age. Nevertheless I agree that, at some point, feeling wonder is the beginning of philosophy. My point is that it is an important feeling but not the only one that makes you a philosopher.

Philosopher is a thinker. He is thinking and analyzing things he doesn't know and wants to explore better. But to start exlporing something he needs to have a spark, an interest that it's going to be challenging and heartily to see what it's going to be like. That's why people wonder why it's like that or what leads to what etc. They see a little light and like they are blind they are going to this light. So first is a wonder that leads to exploring and thinking. Without wonder, it's impossible to think deeper just because you don't have a spark that awakes interest.

When person has feeling of wonder-he has thirst for knowledge. When person has thirst for knowledge-he starts thinking. When person start thinking-he becomes philosopher!

Philosophy is the study of problems connected to things like reality and ethics. The first step of being a philosopher is to wonder and question the things around us. To be a philosopher means to be a thinker, without thinking there is no wonder. If you are the thinker, you start to wonder. That is the beginning of philosophy.

Philosophy is about thinking, wondering, questioning, and being curious. So is the way of gaining knowledge. To gain more knowledge, we have to keep an open mind, and discover from everyday life. Keeping an open mind, we can see the small things of life, we can wonder, and we can think. Wondering is one of the most awesome thing we can do. Because we can wonder, we could think, and that makes us human different from other creatures.

I totally agree with this quote by Plato, Thaeateur. If you start wondering something, you will definetly find the answer for what you are wondering with your knowledge. You will search, ask, read, think and do research to find your answer. A wonder is just a start of how to be a good philosopher, and it's giving you the enough knowledge to understand something based on your research about your wonder. Usually to wonder something is a kind of something common with almost everyone, even it's just a maths question,a science or how to get around in a city, like New York City. In the start, it was a kind of difficult for me to get around in New York city, I started wondering how to get around the city, and where that go. I tried in my own way with taking train, subway and cabs to different place that gave me enough knowledge to know the city better. That's how I got the enough knowledge to get around the city.

Finally, wondering is just a start of your life, and you will always wonder something!

To experience life to the fullest, one need to be able to be question things. Through questioning life, comes the wonder of life. Which is an important thing to do. But is wonder the only beginning of philosophy? I am not sure. As human beings we will always question our own existence, whether this means that we are philosophers or just questioning our true nature is not easy to say. Wondering in it self is what makes life as we know it interesting, and is what is keeping us moving forward. When discovering something new we have a habit of questioning it with skeptical eyes, this will lead us to the wonder part, which again is the only beginning of philosophy, according to Plato.

The little butterfly

Once Tom woke up in the morning. This mornig was like every morning. He pulled his clothes on , brushed his teeth and went to school. He need exaxtly 8 minutes per feet to school but this morning he needed 30 minutes because he stopped on his way. He stopped because he saw a little flower. On the flower there was a little caterpiller cocoon. Tom walks this way now for over 3 years but he never stopped. But today he stoped ,because he never saw the birth of a butterfly. Tom thought if he would stay he would see a butterfly. He waited but nothing happened for a while but after 15 minutes the cocoon began to move first slow but than faster and faster. The cocoon began to break and little wings began to move.Tom just saw the little butterfly flying away faster than a eyes blink.

This little story shows the way of wonder. Wonder are suprprisin things that are coming from a higher power. Nobody can not be sure if it s god or not but we all know that wonder exist.
As philosoph youu think or you love to think but nobody knows why do you think and where the thinking is coming from. The little butterfly is a symbol of wonder that wonder could happened everyewhere anf thinking is everywhere. The philosophy started with a wonder , too because the birth of the universe was just a wonder too.

The definition of the philosopher is a specialist in the investigation of existence and thinking.(vocabulary.com) What Plato said in this quotation is that wondering of the objects is the basic symbol and duties of a philosopher as a job. To wonder something, we need to experience that first. It means that we have to feel, smell, see, taste something which are perceptions. Because people can be encouraged to think by wondering, I agree that statement. However, wondering something is really significant not only for philosophers, but also for everybody. Without wondering, it is really hard to be interested in something. For example, Benjamin Franklin invented the lightening rod after he wondered the power of thunderstorm by watching that. It shows us that wondering something is the fundamental behavior of human beings.

Thanks, guys! Your contributions are highly appreciated. Please see below the criteria I will use to mark your entries:

1) Comprehension. You should answer the question (or comment on the given quotation) in a manner that reflects a good understanding of its meaning and/or relation to what we do in class.

2) Expression. Please revise both grammar and spelling. I will subtract one point for each serious mistake you commit. Not typos, of course.

3) Adequateness of the length of your answers to the "substance" and "level of difficulty" of the question. Although I prefer quality to quantity, it is not enough to tap a few sentences on your smartphones. I know this is a small box you have to write or type your answers in, but there's no alternative. I expect you to write approximately 350 words or more. Tip: use personal examples.

Philosopher is a thinker and learner. He tries to understand human's ways of thinking. I agree that wonder might be the beginning of philosophy because it is a start. When you want to learn you start wondering of something you want to know more about. And then you can become a philosopher if you think and learn more about certain thing.
